[演講摘要]
數位學習,不可否認的將會是下ㄧ波 Internet 應用的重要推手。
但何時成型呢? 是現在還是五年後? 除了成熟的科技之外,應用模式將扮演關鍵的角色?
由於 PowerPoint 非常容易使用且呈現的效果相當好,已經廣泛應用於各類的教學活動中,例如上課教學、學生交作業、專題或論文報告等,而這些內容通常都是知識經過整理後的精華,也是推動知識管理與數位教材的基礎,但很可惜的,簡報結束後通常只能留下 .ppt 檔案,最重要的講解過程卻無法有效的保留。隨著資訊科技的進展,目前已經可以透過軟體的協助,在完全不需要改變簡報的習慣下,同時將講解的過程錄影 (包括聲音、影像、簡報畫面與滑鼠軌跡),並在 Internet 上分享。由於知識數位化 (簡報錄影) 與建檔 (進入資料庫並上網分享) 的過程幾乎沒有門檻,讓許多的教學應用變為實際可行,甚至,經由學生修課過程中的作業,完成高品質且有價值的數位教材。本主題將以 PowerPoint 為基礎,介紹如何透過簡單的機制,協助研究或教學的進行,並迅速累積相關資源,建立每位老師專屬的知識庫。

[演講摘要]
透過 PowerCam & XMS,知識數位化 (在 PowerPoint 中按紅色錄影鈕開始簡報與錄影) 與建檔管理 (簡報結束後點選 Upload 將資料上網) 只需要兩個步驟,由於進入門檻相當低,可直接運用在實驗室的論文簡報,教育訓練或教學上,例如:
A. 研究論文與專題報告錄影
B. 助教講解習題或考試的解答
C. 老師上課時同步錄影
D. 學生交報告或是簡報練習

Abstract
A new generation of developers cites the crushing weight of corporate bureaucracy, the rapid pace of information technology change, and the dehumanizing effects of detailed plan-driven development as cause for revolution. In their rallying cry, the Manifesto for Agile Software Development, these developers call for a revitalized approach to development that dispenses with all but the essentials. Real-world examples argue for and against agile methods. Responding to change has been cited as the critical technical success factor in the Internet browser battle between Microsoft and Netscape. But overresponding to change has been cited as the source of many software disasters, such as the $3 billion overrun of the US Federal Aviation Administration's Advanced Automation System for national air traffic control. The author believes that both agile and plan-driven approaches have a responsible center and overinterpreting radical fringes. Agile and plan-driven methods both form part of the planning spectrum. Thus, while each approach has a home ground within which it performs very well, and much better than the other, a combined approach is feasible and preferable in some circumstances.

Abstract
Image segmentation plays a fundamental role in many researches such as image recognition, image compression, image visualization and image retrieval. The region of interest (ROI) is first obtained by the procedure of image segmentation, and further analyses are applied to the extracted ROI. The performance of further analyses is obviously affected by the segmentation results, and how to achieve better segmentation performance becomes an important research topic.

Abstract
We present a novel approach for real-time rendering of translucent surfaces. The computation of subsurface scattering is performed by first converting the integration over the 3D model surface into integration over a 2D texture space and then applying importance sampling based on the irradiance stored in the texture. Such a conversion leads to a feasible GPU implementation and makes real-time frame rate possible. Our implementation shows that plausible images can be rendered in real time for complex translucent models with dynamic light and material properties. For objects with more apparent local effect, our approach generally requires more samples that may downgrade the frame rate. To deal with this case, we decompose the integration into two parts, one for local effect and the other for global effect, which are evaluated by a modified local subsurface scattering method and our texture space importance sampling, respectively. Such a hybrid scheme is able to steadily render the translucent effect in real time with a fixed amount of samples.

2/25 Representing the Appearances of Human Faces for Recognition

Abstract
Face recognition has been heavily studied in computer vision over the past decade. The difficulties of face recognition lie in the inherent variation of facial characteristics and the environment of image acquisition. Traditional face recognition systems usually impose restrictions on the imaging situation, such as well-controlled environment or near-frontal, well-aligned images. However, for most of the face images taken from a general digital camera in our daily life, these assumptions are not always true. In this talk, we are going to present a general framework that tries to solve these problems practically. We first introduce a joint model of discriminative and generative learners to detect faces, as well as locate and align the facial features. We then create the facial visual signatures by embedding the cropped face appearances to a low-dimensional subspace. This embedding tries to minimize a metric objective aimed at separating faces of different identities by a large margin, which markedly improves the face recognition results. Finally, we present a novel and effective probabilistic approach by constructing a Markov Random Field that effectively combines all the additional contextual cues, such as clothing appearance, identity co-occurrence, and time information in photo albums, to further improve the recognition performance.
